The Illinois Senate passed Senate Bill 3926 and I am honored to Chief Co-Sponsor it alongside Rep Maura Hirschauer. This bill continues the Breakthrough Therapies for Veteran Suicide Prevention Advisory Council within the Department of Public Health.
The council advises the state on clinical guidelines, provider training, and the infrastructure needed to support emerging FDA designated breakthrough therapies for veteran suicide prevention.
Its role includes making recommendations on provider credentialing, patient safety, treatment facility standards, public awareness efforts, and the collection and sharing of treatment data.
The council consists of 15 members, including appointees from the Governor, General Assembly, and relevant state agencies, along with subject matter experts. At least three members must be veterans.
