Schweizer Comments on Federal Indictment of Rep. Carol Ammons

DANVILLE, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) issued the following statement following the federal indictment of State Representative Carol Ammons on charges alleging kickback schemes involving taxpayer-funded grants:

“Serving is public office is a privilege, and elected officials should be held to the highest of standards. Following these serious allegations and federal indictments, I believe both Rep. Carol Ammons and Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons should resign. No elected official should remain in office simply because they have the legal right to do so. Sometimes the right thing to do is different from the legally permissible thing to do. Public office is built on trust, and once that trust has been fundamentally compromised, stepping aside is the responsible course of action.”
