DANVILLE, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) issued the following statement after three bipartisan bills he co-sponsored were signed into law this week. The measures support Illinois veterans, service members, and their families:
- SB 3737: Creates the Servicemember Education Rights Veneration (SERVE) Act, protecting military students’ educational rights when they are called to serve.
- SB 3818: Authorizes the Department of Military Affairs to award grants from the Military Affairs Trust Fund to help incentivize recruitment into the Illinois National Guard.
- SB 3926: Strengthens the Breakthrough Therapies for Veteran Suicide Prevention Program Advisory Council, expanding support for veterans seeking innovative mental health treatments for conditions such as PTSD and depression.
“As a 21-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps, supporting our active-duty service members, veterans, and their families has always been one of my highest priorities,” said Rep. Schweizer. “These new laws will help protect military students, strengthen our National Guard, and expand access to innovative mental health resources for veterans. I am proud to have worked with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance these measures, and I will continue fighting to ensure those who serve our nation receive the support they have earned.”
All three bills passed the General Assembly unanimously and will take effect on January 1, 2027.
