Schweizer Attends Honor Ceremony to Mark 50 Years Since End of Vietnam War

On Saturday, I attended the Honor Ceremony that marks 50 years since the ending of the Vietnam War.

In attendance were surviving Vietnam veterans and their families, along with the families of deceased veterans, all honored by name and given certificates from the Illinois House of Representatives. Residents of the area also packed the stands to show their appreciation.

I, along with other elected officials, showed my gratitude for the many veterans that fought during the war and for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

“To be able to recognize the Veterans that came before us; the Vietnam Vets had a lot to do with how we are welcomed nowadays; especially the way I came home,” said Rep. Schweizer. “The parades and the ceremonies that they didn’t get to have that, so it’s great to be able to do this for them.”
