SPRINGFIELD, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) issued the following statement after the FY26 budget passed the Illinois House of Representatives in a partisan vote.
“Yet again, a record-spending budget passed the House on a purely partisan vote,” said Rep. Schweizer. “This budget raises taxes on hard working Illinois families, perpetuating the worn-out tax, spend, tax, spend cycle with no end in sight. Our citizens cannot afford this out-of-control spending anymore.”
“The budget process is flawed and unfair,” continued Schweizer. “Instead of going through the proper channels, the budget bill that passed did not go back to committee after changes were made, eliminating the option to debate or add input, further limiting transparency for both Republican lawmakers and Illinoisans. Taxpayers deserve to know where their money is going.”
“The budget was crafted behind closed doors, excluding Republican input, and raised taxes on already cash-strapped Illinoisans,” Schweizer noted. “Instead of prioritizing much needed tax relief and cutting costs, the FY26 budget spends $2 billion more than last year, requiring taxpayers to clean up the mess from the tax-and-spend Democrats.”
“This isn’t budgeting, this is dysfunction,” concluded Schweizer.
