Schweizer Congratulates Westville Public Library District for Tech Grant Awarded

DANVILLE, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) issued the following statement after Westville Public Library District in Westville received a $12,500 library tech grant from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office. To qualify for the grant, libraries must have a low tax base in relation to their served population, and also consider the technological needs of their constituents.

“Congratulations to Westville Public Library District for being awarded one of the library tech grants from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office,” said Rep. Schweizer. “Our libraries are the backbones of our communities, providing services beyond access to books, to all groups of people. With grant opportunities such as this, libraries can get ahead and continue to provide up-to-date technological services to community members that need them most.”

This year, the Illinois Secretary of State issued 88 grants, totaling over $1 million, to help underserved libraries. The grant allows the libraries to use the funds in a two-year time period to update existing hardware and software, expand internet resources, purchase additional electronic devices and mobile apps, increase Wi-Fi and internet accessibility, assure ADA compliance, and make other related technology upgrades, purchases, and expansions.
