SPRINGFIELD, IL… State Representative Brandun Schweizer (R-Danville) passed House Resolution 864 out of the House of Representatives, officially marking June 2026 as Fallen Heroes Month in Illinois. The resolution honors the service and sacrifice of fallen heroes across the state of Illinois.
“This resolution is about remembrance and honoring the brave men and women across the nation and the state, thanking them for their ultimate sacrifice,” said Rep. Schweizer. “Soldiers, sailors, airman, and marines left their homes, answered the call to serve, and gave up their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today. We must remember them for their service, courage, and their sacrifice.”
Rep. Schweizer invited guests from the McCarthy Brigade, a volunteer-based group in Chicago that is dedicated to honoring 9/11 victims, veterans, and first responders, to attend the adoption of the resolution. The group also works closely with Gold Star Families.
“Freedom is something we simply enjoy every day, but for Gold Star Families, freedom carries a cost that is deeply personal. It is a folded flag given to a spouse, parent, or child or it is an empty chair at celebrations and holidays. Thank you to the Gold Star Families for sharing your loved ones with us.”
The resolution passed the Veterans’ Affairs Committee with unanimous support before being adopted on the House Floor.
