Today, at Northeast Elementary School in Danville, students presented influential Black Americans to commemorate Black History Month. Below are students portraying Jesse Owens, Michelle Obama, and Harriet Tubman.
Jesse Owens was an American track and field athlete, specializing in sprints and long jump events. Owens won four medals at the 1936 Olympics.
Michelle Obama, an Illinois native, attorney and author, served as the First Lady of the United States from 2009-2017. Michelle Obama was the first Black woman to serve as the First Lady of the United States.
Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and activist who played a crucial role in helping enslaved people escape through the Underground Railroad.
